The digital era has brought with it an overflow of information that we have to contend with on a daily basis. Emails, texts, and social media, all require our attention and a lot of the time we just want to shut it all off. The cons of this type of lifestyle are that we are letting go of the present moment and living in a world where we are constantly thinking about what has already happened or what might happen next.  This can cause us to feel overwhelmed, stressed and can even affect our health if it is not managed correctly.  In this article, I will discuss how mindfulness is important in our modern world as well as some tips to help bring mindfulness into our lives.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the intentional process of bringing one’s attention to the present moment. It is a form of meditation, but it does not require any religious beliefs or rituals.

Mindful living has many benefits for adults and children alike. It improves concentration, reduces stress and anxiety, improves coping skills, boosts creativity, and decreases inflammation among other benefits!

How to Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a part of Buddhism that’s been incorporated into Western Psychology. It’s a way of being aware and present in the moment, without judgment. There are many ways to practice mindfulness. One way is to eat mindfully by taking small bites and chewing slowly. You can also make a schedule that includes waking up early, spending time on something for yourself, and giving yourself a break before noon.

Mindful Breathing

Another technique for practicing mindfulness is mindful breathing where you breathe in for three seconds, hold it for one second, and breathe out for three seconds.  There are many resources and books available that you can use to learn more about mindful breathing techniques as well as the benefits of it.
